What makes a great movie?
Ever since joining Englishtown I’ve been writing reviews about different movies that have come into release, but I thought it was time to ask the Englishtown audience out there what makes a great movie. Apart from the obvious things like special effects, acting and storyline everyone, no matter what country they come from, has some opinion about what makes a great film, and as our community is from all over the world, I think all of you have some great ideas for what you think is story well done. In putting this question out to you all though here are some ideas of my own, tell me what you think?

Is the scriptwriter able to live in the world of the character?

I believe a good scriptwriter develops a screenplay in a way that they breathe and live in the world in the story that they are creating. If he’s not it usually comes across that they can’t create a story for us that shows us this world

Do the actors share the writer’s vision in the story they are presenting through their acting?

A good script is only a good script if the actors presenting it can make it come alive. Plenty of good ideas are ruined because the actor has no idea about what works and what doesn’t with the story that they are living

Most importantly, does the director have the ability to make sure that the actors and the rest of the crew work towards presenting the best vision possible of the scriptwriter’s creation?

In my experience good directors have a hand in making sure that the script creates a good story, and that the actors and the crew are 100% towards this vision!

RE: RE: What makes a great movie?
I agree with you, Pansan. Good actors and directors are essential to make great films. The movies that really involves me usually discuss coflicts and thoughts that have some conections with my life and fellings. It don´t have to show the same opinion that I have, but the ideas have to be shown in a unique, deep and sensitive way.

RE: What makes a great movie?
I Believe that now what is one of the most important things to make a great movie is the inovation.. Try to make something that is difference than a lot of movies that was made, this is very difficult and one off the good things to make a great movie..everybody is tired to watch the same movie with a pretty final and the equal progress in the movie... This is my opinion :)

RE: What makes a great movie?
The script is very important as i see. We can see those great movies which still be remembered were not had much fascinating effects. There are so many movies in the cinema and few of them have a soul. People could laugh or say "wow" while they sitting before the screen, but when they stand up and turn around ,there is nothing left in their mind. Great moive must have the same background or the same experience whit the audience. People will be inspired or deeply moved because of the stroy or the memory recalled by the story, and now the movie has offically step into the audience mind and become a memory. Take Forest Gump as a exmple, this movie do not have mush speical effect, but eveybody like it, why? because this movie is a concentration of recent history of America, it has the same background with the audience! So, you can see how worse our movie market is now, nobody focus on the movie itself, the producer only want money.

RE: What makes a great movie?
It's very hard to summarize what qualities a good movie should have. Because I think all the good movies are so different from each other. Yet all the bad movies are quite similar to me. In a word: "It doesn't make enough sense, story-wise, performance-wise, or visual-wise".
